It's not spinning up/down. Making it spin down is dipping the ball.With those familiar with baseball, this is what a knuckle-ball is...it has none or hardly any spin and it moves in the air unpredictably. This is similiar to what Cristiano Ronaldo does for his freekicks but he hasn't scored from those distances.

If you look really closely you can see how he actually hits his laces underneath the ball rather than alongside it. thats how he manages to get it to curl without spinning it - it's not spinning right/left, but spinning up/down.
