john mayer writes his own lyrics, he would never give up his integrity as an artist and have someone else write for him. jack and john are both great, why are we comparing? jack is acoustic soft rock while john is more of bluesy pop. as far as writing i think that jack is more matured and better at portraying his feelings through music. and of course mayer is a more accomplished guitar player, who didnt know that?

dude, Jack Johnson is by far the simplest guitar player ever. i give credit to John Mayer amazing guitar skills thats it!, but his songwriting dont even come close to Jack, i really dont understand whats coming out of John's mouth.Jack Johnson > John Mayer (overall package)

John Mayer's guitar music is much more difficult. And the writing, that HE DOES DO himself is much more musically complicated. He uses complex jazz chords and ideas. If you can play his stuff with your eyes closed then you can play Jack Johnson on your head. Jack Johnson uses chords. How often does he go and do a solo. Also, John Mayer plays blues songs that are more complex than most modern artists.

John Mayer most definitely no question writes his own songs. No one would make those ridiculous faces while singing if they didn't write their own songs.

I like John Mayer but his songs are simple compared to Jack Johnson's I could play half of John Mayer's songs with my eyes closed and I can only play two of Jack J's songs period. He does a lot more with his guitar, like his percussive playing and the way he adds hammer-ons and pulloffs between each chord, it's different and it's great, and that's why he's the One and Only Jack Johnson that he is
