"They knew where AlQuaida were"? They WERE AlQuaida, and they're still sectarian thuggish sunni warlords, just like the Iraqi army, which is composed of sectarian thuggish shia warlords. The surge may have brought stability by putting the warlords in charge, but it has killed any future Iraq might have had.

Great, the Surge worked, so now all our troops can come home. Right?
YadhiraZ (December 31, 1969 at 3:59 pm)

Who is this schill? He somehow ignores the fact of massive American and Iraqi casualties, which constitutes a war crime of terrible scope. He also ignores the disastrous effect on our economy and the world's economy.

I don't see how "the surge worked" is a proper title for this video. Maybe, "the surge was one part of a greater effort that included payouts, the deaths of many former militants and the Al-Anbar Awakening that is tenuously working for now" would be better.

Just to get back to reality, 'the sunnis' have lost the battle for Baghdad that's why 'they' are taking money now. Their attacks on terrorist groups have begun i think 8 month before the 'surge' and what you guys have achieved since you invaded Iraq is installing and defending an Iranian Vichy government. The 4000 americans that have been killed, died for the damn Ayatollah Khamenei (oh and Haliburton), good work. (and oh yeah a few hundred thousand Iraqis are dead too)

The surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has workedThe surge has worked...keep saying this 100000 times a day and you'll believe it. Giving your 'enemies' shitloads of money is really a smart thing lol. Of course now all americans walk around in bermuda shorts over there, that's why you'll never see pictures of Iraq on american tv.

Yea. lets just send wave after wave of American citizen to pull backwards people out of the dark ages while we slowly fall back into it. Keep the war going so we one day too can have a church ruled state as well. Fuck the NY times!

For some balance, check out that interview with Peter Galbraith, former ambassador under Clinton (Oct 7, LA Public Library). It's also on Fora TV, just click on the in this video's comments.Galbraith says among other things that the Awakening is basically a 100,000-strong Sunni army, mostly ex-Bathists, that is absolutely opposed to the Shiite gov't. Sounds like more civil war to me.
