Actually the Dragunov, not the SVD which is what you said, was in fact the first purpose built sniper rifle. Everything before it were simply modified infantry rifles. I do believe there is a difference between the Dragunov and the SVD.

Elc22; With the right ammo they're very nice as a semi-auto marksmans rifle.Most commercially loaded ammo is loaded to high for them, the soviets had a special round made for SVD marksmen that complemented the weapon, ... I'd love to get hold of some of that and analyse whats in it.If you use military surplus 54R in one of these you may as well blindfold yourself, hold the gun by the barrel, and swing it at the target like a pinata! :o)

im pretty sure most of you dont know that the Dragunov is actually not a true "sniper rifle". its a support weapon of sorts, yes its used like a sniper rifle all the time, but it was originally made to extend the range of a infantry squad, not to be used for lone snipers. its a marksman weapon, not a sniper.but its accuracy is usually good enough to do decent sniping.

Chinese version of the Russian SVD/Dragunov.Same design but the Russian made production rifle is better.I think the Chinese version is called an NDM 86? - or something like that.
