Oh sure, your point about the tie is well taken. But I still think Paladin came across more powerfully without it:)-- I had heard that about "Hec Ramsey," which I also enjoyed, but never saw the show in which he confessed to being Paladin. Boone was terrific. He was a marvelous villian in later John Wayne films like "Big Jake" and "The Shootist." Also had a delightful bit as Charlton Heston's aide in "The War Lord" --

But the "effete" look was actually appropriate: Paladin was not your conventional gunfighter - he had a college education [West Point], wore fancy clothes and enjoyed gourmet meals . . .Interesting tidbit: When Richard Boone was playing "Hec Ramsey" in NBC's Mystery Movie later on, in one episode, he revealed that he had been known as Paladin in his younger days . . . so he was actually reprising a role from almost 20 years earlier . . .
