July 2005The major problem facing Africa is corruption and control of resources. In the DRC, the military is stealing minerals to sell to Western companies. At a remote mine in central DRC, workers with torches and pick axes hack at the ruddy earth. They are mining cassiterite, a mineral vital in the production of laptops and mobile phones. But dispersed among the miners are Congolese Government troops -- in plain clothes for the camera -- literally forcing most workers to work at gunpoint. 'The soldiers always steal everything. They even come to shoot people down the mineshafts,' complains Regina Maponda. Western greed for cassiterite is fuelling the boom -- at an airfield near the mine, soldiers jealously guard their loot as it makes it way to Japan and the West. Conflict mining is a curse, and it is difficult to see what the G8 leaders can do.

Even though you're partly right with what you say about the UN, you can't be serious about that Reich thing. It's just silly. History tells you what happens -- just look what Hitler brought us: More than 20,000,000 Dead and whole Nations (mostly Germany) destroyed!And Tito was all about national individuality -- he founded the NAM (=Non-Aligned Movement) -- and actually he fought the last Reich, as he was one of the leaders of the anti-fascist resistance during World War II!

Seriously, what is the use of the U.N ? Theyre a bunch of rained in pussies by a whole bunch of "global" bullshit policies made up by fat cushy politicians. A lot of help the U.N did against the genocide in Serbia. It took U.S and NATO balls to make a change. Abolish the U.N and lets make the U.S a "Reich" and only then can we keep everyone else in line. Just ask "Tito" ...if he could reply

I will give nukeiran1980 the benefit of the doubt an say they are clearly uninformed and know nothing about history of Africa. It amazes me that people who claim to be superior to others can make such shallow and ignorant comments. Skin color has nothing to due with intelligence simply resources and the drive to learn. It is sad that in this day and time people like you are filled with such hate that they cannot embrace the gracious diversity god has blessed this planet with.

I wonder why altruistic tycoons, like Bill Gates and Richard Branson, etc., don't purchase control of the tin mines and make upgrades to the working conditions. After all, their industries need the tin, and they claim to want to improve the lives of Africans.

FYI its not just the Brits there. American companys pillage Congo as much as the Brits, Belgians, French and Lebonese do. This video is one dude in one part of Congo. It was kinda weird to see one of Victor Bout's planes there. I've seen that mofo's planes all over Africa

The West has pillaged Congo for a very long time now. Honestly its because we don't care. Men being robbed of thier rocks, and women being raped by Soldiers and rebels is too far removed from us purchasing at Computer at Best Buy for us to care. Its easier to block out the images and pretend its not real. US Soldiers would love to go to Africa and fight. I know I'm one. The President would send us. Its the American population who don't give a flying fuck about what they can't see with thier eyes

England is busy robbing these people as usual, using their poverty and ignorance as its tool. Other wise why the f*ck walk 80 miles (both ways) to make $5.00 with little chance of survival.
